Hello Everyone!
As the newest member of SLAPS I want to take the time to let everyone get to know a little about me and what I can contribute to the team. I also would like to be able to document from my personal view what happens on an investigation. Please be aware that these are my opinions alone and may not necessarily represent the thoughts of SLAPS as a whole.
So, bare with me, because I'm not really one to talk about myself. That involves opening up to people I don't know and it's hard to think of where the best place to start would be. Here goes: I'm British, 28, married and have four beautiful children. I'm also a full time education student at SUNY Potsdam. I like to consider myself pretty grounded, but with a twist.
Its not unheard of for a psychic/clairvoyant/medium to attach themselves to a Paranormal Team, and thats exactly what I am. Since I was a child, strange things would happen that I always deemed perfectly normal. These things would range from dreams that would come true, to an out of body experience. Whilst my mother suspected I had a gift (since she did, and it ran in the family) she attempted to protect me from it as a child, shrugging off any occurances I had.
It was only until I hit my early teens that my gift began to alter. My parents bought and moved into a hotel in Devon, England. It was a Victorian building, very large and looming. I find it amusing now that anywhere that usually has activity, tends to "look" as if it might have it from the outside. It really did look like a haunted building because of its age - but honestly, I liked the place. However, it was already occupied and I found this out the hard way. I found myself hearing noises from the bathroom that I couldn't explain. A child would call out "Help!" and no one would be there. This is where I had my first encounter with an actual spiritual being. I was asleep in one of the rooms usually used for guests and found myself startled awake by the pressing down of someone who was sat at the end of the bed. The hour was witching - around 3am. When I looked to my left, an old rocking chair that my mother was very fond of had an old woman sitting in it. I remember the details of her attire to this day. Strangely, the image did not frighten me, I wasn't sure if it was a dream. In the morning I discribed the scene to my mother who was amazed that I had given the full details of my great grandmother, long passed. The rocking chair had belonged to her.
I've had many experiences since then, throughout my life that has led to this point. My abilties have earned a reputation locally for being good, people like to come to me for help and I have never turned anyone away. My experience ranges from giving readings through psychic fairs, I've attended a spiritual church and its there where I held readings for an audience. Once, I had my own room at the "Wild Rose" in Potsdam, where I would receive people. Things took off and I did psychic parties. However, I found it too hard to charge people and had to withdraw from it.
My method is a little different than most. I don't use Tarot, but I am educated in it. I was also taught the ways of using a crystal ball (yes, I own one, but they like to gather dust.) I don't use it either. I simply use my own feelings, my own intuition. I believe I have a minds eye, and I am able to see visions of the past and sometimes future things as well as spirits. My main frustration is that people have come to me to seek advice and then never follow it, thus in my mind defeating the point. I've learnt to accept that people might not want to hear what I have to say, but if it involves their own well being, I will be honest and tell you anyway. NO, I have never ever told anyone they are going to die. Yes, I've still saved someone's life from an accident.
Its because of these various experiences that I joined SLAPS, because I have a need to find out the truth also. My gift has made me who I am today and its about time I put it to further good use. Not only am I looking to develop my experiences with what might be paranormal - I'm also extremely excited about the science behind it.
Watch this space, I'll blog when I can about our investigations and you'll not only get the chance to learn more about how Slaps does things, but you'll also get to see it from the point of view from someone who can already see the dead. This is going to be an interesting ride, guys.

We are a not-for-profit organization called S.L.A.P.S-the St Lawrence Association of Paranormal Science. We are a skilled paranormal and research organization in Northern New York committed to seeking scientific evidence that can either prove or disprove ghostly phenomenons. We started this group to curb our curiosity of the unknown. We are just regular people looking for answers and we are here to help you find some answers also.
The use of psychics is something very new for us. Though we still will use the scientific approach on investigations, we thought by bringing in a psychic, it could definately benefit us in helping us prove our evidence and the clients claims. I am very interested in what the future holds with this technique.

I like the use of the phrase "an interesting ride" Rachel..
ReplyDeleteBeing someone who uses the same genre of gift to discern the nature of paranormal activity, i definitely can relate to your abilities and experiences. I am very proud of S.L.A.P.S to recognize to the need to not exclude those who have this perception, this intuition, this skill. The defining of the subject as well as the defining of its role is a ride, a journey, and as much as the whole of society is driven by scientifically proven truth, i honestly believe society as a whole SECRETLY believes, with equal conviction, in truths we cannot scientifically prove. Hopefully S.L.A.P.S can be there for Northern New York, to bridge the gap by attempting to generate both scientific documentation and allow for, and in some ways encourage, people to open up to the other side of their beliefs, the other sides of life and to open that dialogue...to journey with us.
When I sent an e-mail to Donny and Nate to become a member, I did point out that although I had this gift it wasn't the only reason I wanted to join. However, I did want to give them an opportunity to decide if they'd like me to use this skill or not.
ReplyDeleteAs I will mention again in my next blog, our intention is to test my own skills and I was not given any information about the house we were going to investigate.
In short though, I'd like to thank Slaps for indeed allowing me to work with their clients and hopefully aid the investigation.
Yes Beth, you couldn't have said it better, it most certainly is a journey and this is a controversal feild that some are afraid to expose themselves to. I think in time, with professionalism and scientific reason, we might be able to change that.
How exciting... I love the unknown... I am very intrigued by all of this. I find all of this so interesting and love hearing and reading about findings etc..
ReplyDeleteThanks S.L.A.P.S...for being here in Northern New York. Rae I love the gift you have ... great addition to the team...
Hi Rae,
ReplyDeleteI just read through your blog and enjoyed it very much (you gave me the link on the thread on FB).
The thing that stood out to me most was your comment about where you moved into the Victorian when you were young. You said how often a place that has activity often "looks" like it might. What I've noticed over the years is the reason for this is the use of sacred geometry and esoteric "shapes" in architecture. I think that these things can channel or draw in certain energies (If you guys are interested in this idea I'd suggest David Ovason's book about Washington DC). Spiritualism and Theosophy greatly influenced architecture during the Victorian era.
Anyway, thanks for the link! Best of luck in your investigations all!

A good point, Jake. Also, I wanted it to be taken into account the psychology of it - if a place "looks" creepy or old, then people automatically assume it has paranormal activity. It seems that it can't be helped.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for me, it really did have something strange going on (nothing that I could prove back then.) and this is the reason my parents moved out of the property. I still have nightmares about the place.
I agree with your theory about sacred geometry drawing in certain energies. I've experienced this very recently during my first investigation. The house had been changed from its original state and moved around - it gave a "fun house affect" of angles. What was once an attic had been turned into two bedrooms, but the slope of the attic roof also caused the room to feel very enclosed and unnatural.
You've definately hit on a good point there, thank you. :)
ive known rachel since shne was born but wish id stayed at her hotel now!! xx
ReplyDeletelol Joy, it wasn't something we all spoke about very often! Mum and Dad felt it was haunted but we didn't want to scare each other too often by saying so! lol
